Attracting Investors, Story Scorecard and More

Treasure Tuesday #4: Attracting Investors, Story Scorecard, Liminal Thinking, Graphics and Martial Arts

Greetings! Here is your weekly edition of “Treasure Tuesday” with five quick and inspiring nuggets including tips in attracting investors. Please let me know what you think. What do you want more off?

There are three ways you can enjoy this content:

  1. Most Complete: Watch the interactive video I made with Prezi (below)
  2. Fast & get all the visuals: Click through the Prezi presentation at your own speed (without my narration)
  3. See the short notes below (they might cause you to look more closely at either #1 or #2)

This week’s Treasure Tuesday In A Nutshell:

Gratifying Brilliance

This week’s showcase is a Story Pitching course which is offered as a guided workshop. I worked with the amazing Robert Steven Kramarz, Founder of Intelliversity, on extracting his brilliance. He teaches how to create trust with investors through storytelling (in lieu of the normal pitch decks).

The Result: investors are more likely to say “yes,” and the valuations that precede the investments are also often substantially higher.

Enlightening Visual

The visual of the week is also related to the Story Pitching course. We developed a scorecard that accurately captures the criteria Robert uses when evaluating the quality of stories his students develop in his course.

Prior to our work, Robert knew a good (or bad) story when he heard it. He gave feedback based on his many years of experience. Now, the process is much faster because we made his experience visible to others. Students learn faster the criteria that make a story great. They can also self-assess their stories using this scorecard – and use it as a tool to capture feedback from others.

I interviewed Rob about his experiences with developing the story pitching course together.

Inspiring Book of The Week

The inspiring book of the week is “Liminal thinking” by Dave Gray. The bottom line:

  • Liminal thinking means thinking at the threshold of your current beliefs. It is a way to create change by understanding, shaping, and reframing beliefs.
  • Even if you don’t believe a new belief, you can test it. Just use it as if it were true and see what happens! I see a lot of applications for this idea!

Bold Idea Implemented

I acted on the feedback I got on the Brilliance Mining graphic I showed you last week. Thank you! The graphic is now much simpler. It shows knowledge transfer from one person to many.

The Surprise

Last but not least, the surprise. My friend Dian caught me saying, ” I NEED TO practice my martial arts more (because I’m getting closer to a tournament and also my black belt test), but … (insert various obstacles).” She said, “Stephie when you say “I need to…” it makes you feel like you have this matter handled when in reality you have not done anything. Put it into the calendar!”

She is right, of course. I say this to others all the time. The “surprise” was that I needed someone to say it to me on this one. This just goes to show that just because you know something does not mean you will always do it. Accountability works! Thank you, Dian!

I’m Curious

Which Treasure did you get from this Treasure Tuesday?

For example, you might want to try out a new belief. Pick one that, if it were true, you would be delighted! See what happens. For example, “I find it easy to spend 30 minutes in the morning and write more on my new book.” You might not believe it, but if you test the belief, you might find it true.

Please remember each step forward is enough. One little step is way better than none. The sum of all tiny steps taken consistently is utterly unstoppable. Okay. See you next week. Cheers.
