We Are Better Together | The Brilliance Mine

We Are Better Together

This experience was phenomenal and an important step forward toward three major goals of mine. But it wouldn’t have happened without Laura – not today anyway! Thank you, Laura!

Greetings. Dr. Stephie here.

We are better together. That is the motto of Camp Gladiator, which is an outfit that guides people with exercising. You get together with your friends outdoors, and you exercise together!

I went for the first time today, and I loved it. Thank you, Laura, for getting me there. I had shared with Laura a while ago that I needed to get into better shape.

There are three sources of motivation for me. Of course, I want to live a long time in excellent health. That’s one, but that alone often doesn’t get you off the couch now, does it?

The other two motivations for me are these:

  1. I’m working on my black belt in martial arts in Tang Soo Do (I’m a blue belt now -which is the last step before the ball belt test). Since I moved to Texas about three years ago, my gym is now 40 minutes away from my house instead of about five minutes. Therefore, I now do martial arts only once a week instead of two or three times a week as I used to do.
  2. The other motivation driving me forward is my plan to go trekking in Nepal. 72 miles to the basecamp of Annapurna in the Himalayas.

But all of that still doesn’t necessarily add up to doing exercises you need to do but don’t necessarily feel immediately motivated to do. So, Camp Gladiator and, most of all, Laura, to the rescue. She invited me to come. She said, “Just try it out.”

We had this funny exchange of text messages last night, wherein she gave me a couple of options. She has, in fact, already invited me on Monday. I couldn’t do it on Monday. I was about to turn it down again for Tuesday for various reasons.

Then I thought, “Okay, maybe I can do it.”

I Almost Talked Myself Out Of It

But then I thought, “Wait, they have a one-week tryout, and we have guests coming on Thursday, and then we’re going to go on vacation. So, I should start the tryout afterward.”

However, Laura said, “No, just come!”

Thanks to Laura’s encouragement, I stopped my overthinking and came to the training this morning.

Isn’t it amazing when you look at your inner dialog and spot its influence on your life?!

We Are Better Together – One Step At A Time

We had a great time. What I love about it is that this group allows and encourages you to do the exercise at the level you can right now. They don’t want you to push yourself too hard and get hurt or discouraged, but they want you to work your way up

This method sounds familiar. That’s what I do with my clients in coaching. Don’t bite off ten steps. Instead, bite off one and do that one.

We are better together! I look forward to doing this. Thank you, Laura!

I’m Curious

What is an area in your life where you

  • have experienced “Together is better” and/or
  • could benefit from more support and encouragement?
